During my years of moving type and images around, I’ve designed numerous company and brand logos, clothing graphics, packaging, point of sale displays, websites, stationery, video motion graphics and over 12,000 magazine pages.
In 1992, along with two partners and at twenty years old, I started a business. We ended up publishing five “extreme sports” magazines, and for a while, an urban lifestyle magazine called Level. We sold the company in 2006.
I was the designer/art director of Ride UK BMX Magazine and its website, and remained so until 2008. I art directed our skateboard, mountainbike and motocross magazines—designing each at times—but gave those magazines’ designers as much freedom as possible. When we produced videos to complement our magazines, I designed packaging and video motion graphics for them.
I art directed, designed and directed editorial for Level magazine. Its first issue won the UK’s Total Publishing Award for Best Designed Consumer Magazine.
I have designed for various third parties, including clothing, retail, high-tech, media and entertainment businesses, producing anything graphical that they needed, from logos and branding to T-shirt graphics.
As a small company, we each had numerous jobs. As well as designing, I managed production, scanned, Photoshopped, illustrated, dealt with printers, press-checked, and kept the computer systems firing on all cylinders. (Not to mention lugging in hundreds of boxes of magazines every month.)
I hope you enjoy this littler, phone-friendly website. Make yourself at home.
