A Logo with Flipping Attitude

Snowboarder Magazine was one of the first journals covering those pesky snow-surfing skier-botherers. Its content was high-class with a touch of high-class low-brow.

The previous logo was somewhat so-so and looking dated, so I designed a new one as soon as I started as the magazine’s Art Director.

‘MAGAZINE’ is upside down to reflect the inherent rebelliousness of snowboarders — and the magazine. This was done before Comedy Central’s similar solution!

The word ‘MAGAZINE’ was not present on the magazine cover itself because of its redundancy there. The complete logo appeared everywhere else, from beanies to event flags. I also made a wide version for proportionally challenging placements.
