At once abstract and apparent, the photography exposes vibrant sides of LA that travel features usually leave little explored. Beaches, schmeaches. Except for those beaches.
I used a clean layout to balance the pages and bring focus to the words and the fantastic imagery. That’s my design instinct: to celebrate the photography and to encourage people to read the words.
Don’t get me wrong, I like design that’s all about the design; it works well as a quick win, if that’s the intent. But magazine layouts are about the content. The design is just the vessel. That’s the trick: to build layout ‘packaging’ that increases love for the content.
