Headlining the Barcode

The Bicycle Buyer was a magazine for buyers of bicycles. The name is as plain as the nose on your face. That leaves room for a little design imagination.

What’s the ultimate icon of consumerism? Besides Amazon.

It’s the barcode.

Usually stuffed away in the corner of, well, anything they’re on, I chose to celebrate its relevance to the title by marrying the two. The numbers on the off-cover logo barcode type “thebicyclebuyer” on a numeric keypad, and even have the correct bar pattern for those numbers. It would be replaced with a functional barcode when on the cover.

Concept cover shown, which includes be-spoke* icons.

*Pun intended.
